Safe Fasting - Fasting Tips
Are you fasting for better health or for spiritual renewal? For the uninitiated, there are some useful tips to ensure that you reap the utmost benefits for body, mind and spirit, of safe fasting.
Before you start fasting consult your family physician or health care provider and not assume, especially if you feel you have become knowledgeable about fasting after reading much about it, that safe fasting is a given. A comprehensive medical check-up and a clean bill of health may be your first guarantee of safe fasting. It is not fool-proof, though. You still need to be prudent ever step of the way, because safe fasting will also depend on the manner and frequency with which you carry it out.
Certain cases for whom safe fasting tips alone will not suffice (because by their very condition, they pose a huge risk to their health and lives if they do fast) are people who are extremely thin or emaciate; those who suffer overall physical weakness/anemia; those who have bleeding ulcers, blood sugar problems, heart ailments, tumors, and other serious illnesses; and those who suffer from severe behavioral and eating disorders. Pregnant or nursing moms, likewise, may not be advised to go even for safe fasting. Professional advice must be sought for all these cases.
As far as healthy persons are concerned, make sure that you are not on any prescription medicine, so consult with your doctor. Coming out of safe fasting with greater energy and enhanced health can be well worth the effort and precautions, but you must bear with the uncomfortable part first. Finally, because you are bound to run into some unpleasant side effects, it may be best to schedule safe fasting on a long weekend.
